Acrush look set to be China’s newest boyband sensation.

There’s only one catch though – they are all actually girls.

Members Lu Keran, An Junxi, Peng Xichen, Min Junqian and Lin Fan are all in their late teens and early twenties. While like most manufactured pop bands they were put together by a management team, all five say they were rocking the androgynous look before they joined the group.

They haven’t released as video yet, but they already have almost 900,000 fans on Chinese social media network Weibo – nearly as many as Katy Perry.

The A in Acrush stands for Adonis, the Greek myhological figure known for being extremely rugged and handsome.

They will apparently avoid using either ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ to refer to their members, instead using the word meishaonian, or ‘handsome youths’.

The group’s agent Zhou Xiaobai told Quartz that they are:

A group advocating freedom, not bounded by frames
