Cardi B is dividing opinion after she revealed how much money she is spending on Covid-19 tests.
The rapper revealed to fans on Twitter that she and her team get tested four times a week, and that each test costs $250.
When one concerned fan shared that they thought tests were free, she replied: “It’s free when you go to the doctors and s*** but when it’s for work and you gotta have people test you at your home it’s not.”
She continued by explaining that she faces legal precautions if she doesn’t take regular testing. “If I do a commercial and I get Covid the company can get sued,” she said. “It’s all about not being a liability and is a requirement.”
Later, she defended herself after one user pointed out that many frontline workers don’t have the “luxury” of access to regular testing.

Still, some criticised Cardi for taking an excessive number of tests when the best course of action is to stay at home.

@iamcardib You’re wasting valuable resources, we know the govt has to provide, but you’re wasting testing resources in order to go party.— niri 🍒 (@niri 🍒) 1611678884
Others called her out for suggesting the high prices for private tests are part of some “plan”. Cardi makes several references to Covid-19 testing becoming a business.
@iamcardib Please don’t start the conspiracy theory of COVID being a plan for the rich.. people are dying— Blake Moore (@Blake Moore) 1611681326

Nevertheless, Cardi’s comments highlight how disturbingly easy it is to get tests when you have the money, while the rest who aren’t so fortunate don’t have the same access to frequent testing.
