There have been some strange TV shows in our time. Celebrities ski jumping (The Jump), celebrities learning to dive (Splash), Celebrity Five Go Barging (not an Alan Partridge show but actually a real thing on Channel 5) and celebrities in the Australian jungle eating bugs for our viewing pleasure. Not to mention a show where we watch people watching shows.
Well, the star of two of the former, Gogglebox and I'm A Celeb, Scarlett Moffatt, is taking part in possible the weirdest show yet.
The British Tribe Next Door is a new show coming to Channel 4 whereby a semi-detached British-style house has been erected in the middle of Namibia where the Himba tribe live. They'll live side by side for a month in the four part series, with the aim being for each family to see how the others live. The Moffat's house is equipped with all mod cons as if they were still in the UK, to give the most authentic experience.
The Moffatt's (Scarlett's entire family are relocating) Speaking about the show, Scarlett said ‘This is one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life. I feel privileged and humbled that the Himba tribe invited us to join them and we have all learnt an enormous amount.’
Head of factual entertainment Alf Lawrie said ‘Scarlett and the Himba are the perfect foils, both hospitable, curious, friendly… and sharing a wicked sense of humour.’
Despite it sounding impossibly strange, we can't deny we'll probably be tuning in later this year. Imagine if we're watching the tribe watching Scarlett Moffatt watching herself on Gogglebox watching herself on I'm A Celeb?
OK our brain hurts now.
