The last ever Blockbuster store has been turned into an AirBnb and people actually want to stay there

If you’re feeling nostalgic about being able to pop down to the local video store, rent a couple of films and stay up until the early hours of the morning having a marathon, you’re in luck.

Despite Blockbuster announcing in January 2013 that it was going into administration, some random stores across the world remained opened.

After the closure of a store in Western Australia last year, only one remained – Bend, Oregon.

According to an AirBnb listing by the property’s owner, Sandi Harding, you now have the chance to have a “sleepover inside the world’s last BLOCKBUSTER” store.

On 17 August at 1pm, three lucky people will be able to book the repurposed store for one night each in September. All for just $4 (£3.07) a night.

The listing states:

Over the past few months, we’ve been missing the regular visits from friends, neighbours and tourists from around the world. So, we’re opening our store to three quarantine pods of Deschutes County guests for a socially-distanced movie night, just like those of decades past!

To comply with increased coronavirus guidelines from AirBnb, the entire store will be cleaned and there’ll be “face coverings, disinfectant wipes, and endless hand sanitizer” available for guests. And only people who live in Deschutes County can book the listing – this is so coronavirus doesn't spread from other states.

If you miss out on one of three spots, don’t fret. You can still see the refurbished living room space during store hours “for a limited time”.

Harding also confirmed AirBnb will make a donation to the Humane Society of Central Oregon to “pay it forward”.
