Beyonce hid a powerful symbol in plain sight at her VMAs performance

The MTV Video Music Awards came around again, and featured performances from the likes of Rihanna, Ty Dolla $ign, Britney and the Chainsmokers.

But one performance outdid them all.

Queen B dominated the night, and won Video of the Year for Formation

Beyoncé's performance at the VMA's was on par with her previous work: hair-raising. Earth-shattering. Perfection.

The idea of female empowerment is a constant theme in her work. In 2014 her VMA performance backdrop read “Feminist.”

This year her tribute to women was more subtle but no less powerful:

Beyoncé and her dancers ended the performance by forming the Female Symbol!

And with that finale, Queen B honoured women everywhere.
