The CIA is still not following Edward Snowden on Twitter

What are they up to at Langley?

Yesterday, Edward Snowden joined Twitter, tweeting under the handle @Snowden.

This was his first tweet:

This is his bio:

I used to work for the government. Now I work for the public.

And this is still the only account he follows:

Snowden worked for the National Security Agency as a contractor before leaking documents revealing the extent of its surveillance programme, then flying to Hong Kong and Russia where he has lived for the past two years.

He was recently interviewed by Neil deGrasse Tyson, the astrophysicist, who recommended he joined Twitter. The handle @Snowden was set up years ago and owned by someone else, the Intercept reports, but Twitter was contacted and the username was given to Snowden.

At time of writing he has 931,000 followers, spread acros the world.

The NSA has not followed Snowden back, however, and so far the CIA is not following him either. On Twitter, anyway.

Meanwhile, a Republican presidential candidate, George Pataki, has called on Twitter to suspend Snowden because he's a "traitor".
