A hoax claiming that Snapchat would be shutting down this month has already been quashed.

An article on the prankster website Channel 45 News stated that the social media app would be ceasing operations on 14 November.

The article included a very convincing statement with the decision to close the app apparently coming from CEO Evan Spiegel.

It reads as follows:

The CEO Evan Spiegel of the very popular app Snapchat has released that Snapchat will be removed from all app stores by 14 November 2017.

According to Fox News Media Evan has decided to make this decision due to copyright and legal issues with Facebook, Instagram, and Musical.ly.

By the date November 14, 2017 all Snapchat apps with be removed from all devices and all app stores.

DISCLAIMER all data and media associated with the app will also be deleted within the app.

This piece of fake news spread very quickly on the app and it wasn't helped by the fact that Snapchat suffered an outage shortly after it was published.

This instantly made people very confused and concerned.

However, Snapchat have worked swiftly to debunk the rumour posting a link to the fact checking website Snopeson their Twitter support page.

Evan Speigel even responded to the news when asked about it online.
