Pornhub 'extremely interested' in buying Tumblr and lifting ban on adult content

It was a dark day for porn fans back in December 2018 when social media site Tumblr announced it was going to ban all adult content from its pages.

Of course, there are other things you can use Tumblr for - what that is, we're not quite sure - but nevertheless, as of March 2019, visits to the 'safe for work' version of the site dropped by more than 125 million, according to reports.

Many Tumblr users were angered by the porn ban, as Tumblr was seen as a safe haven for marginalised groups - such as women and the LGBT+ community - to access the types of erotic material often ignored by mainstream porn sites.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Tumblr's owner Verizon Media is now reportedly looking for a buyer after the site struggled to meet revenue targets. And the knight in orange and black armour who might just save the day for all involved? That's right, Pornhub.

Pornhub's vice president revealed in an email to BuzzFeed Newsthat the adult entertainment company is 'extremely interested' in buying Tumblr and restoring the site to its former x-rated glory.

"Tumblr was a safe haven for those who wanted to explore and express their sexuality, adult entertainment aficionados included," said Corey Price, Pornhub's VP.

"We've long been dismayed that such measures were taken to eradicate erotic communities on the platform, leaving many individuals without an asylum through which they could comfortably peruse adult content.

"There are obvious synergies between the two brands and value Pornhub could derive from Tumblr.

"We're extremely interested in acquiring the platform and are very much looking forward to one day restoring it to its former glory with NSFW content."

Verizon Media have yet to comment on Pornhub's interest of the potential sale of Tumblr overall.

Pornhub's interest in Tumblr - or at least its users - is no secret. When the ban was still announced, the porn giant tweeted that it welcomed Tumblr users "with open arms" to join its online community.

Pornhub's Twitter account has also been retweeting stories about the potential purchase, so they're clearly keen to let everyone know how horny they are for Tumblr.
