The Labour party is proving how competent it is by sending an email to thousands of people addressed to 'Firstname'

Labour is the political party that prides itself on being a movement, with 380,000 members and “every single one of them… vital”.

So it’s awkward that the party’s communications team has emailed every vital member – subject “What about you?” – with the greeting “Dear Firstname”.

Some suggested it showed how far the party has to go before it will be seen as a viable contender for Government.

Others asked why Labour stopped at the name #strongmessagehere.

And soon it all got a bit existential:
