By now, everyone knows Instagram is fake.

Not in the way Fake News is fake, or even in the way counterfeit Yeezy's that adorn mats in St. Mark's Square are fake.

Instagram is just performative. It's projections of how we want to be seen by others - so now the woke thing is to subvert posed images that strive for the aesthetic.

The latest trend is being body positive by posting comparisons, drawing contrast between 'instagram' posed photos and 'real life' unposed photos.

This isn't a bad thing in the slightest. presenting a realistic window on the world is always good.

As Finnish blogger, 20 year old Sara Puhto, points out:

Nobody's booty looks round and peachy from all angles. Nobody's body looks the same from all angles.

Don't eat less or miss out on your favourite meals/drinks or over exercise to “look good for a holiday” or to “look good in bikini photos” because there will always be angles that are “unflattering” that might make you feel bad when you see them.

Instead workout and eat healthy because it makes you feel good, not as a punishment.

Start loving and accepting your body at all angles with all your “flaws”, instead of trying to fit into societies image of 'beauty' because that image isn't inclusive of all individuals, which is so messed up.

It's a common theme in her posts:

Also healthy is a frank reassessment of the purpose of social media.

Platforms have been made free so you upload personal data, share it with the world, and the world can learn better how to sell to you.

So every time you log onto Instagram consider whether you really are happy checking up on food trends, browsing memes, or seeing how your ex looks like these days?

If you take photos on the platform and enjoy sharing them with your friends, and enjoy seeing your friends' snaps - great.

Take photos for you.
