Kickstarter, the UN Refugee Agency and the White House are working together on a new project to help Syrian refugees - and they need your help too.
The #AidRefugees campaign, unlike other fundraising Kickstarter projects, has no all-or-nothing goal that has to be reached before the week is up, and Kickstarter is donating its entire fee to the campaign.
The project has already received $750,000 (£500,000) in 24 hours, and has six days left to reach its goal of $1,225,000 (£800,000).
Just £10 could provide a person with a mat and sleeping bag to rest in, the project says. £20 could provide 50 people with fresh water, and £390 is enough to put a child through school for a year, which is crucial for the 60,000 Syrian children currently thought not to have any access to education at all.
Yancey Strickler, CEO and cofounder of Kickstarter, said the company was approached by the White House a few weeks ago to talk about practical solutions to help people trying to reach Europe from the Middle East and Kickstarter thought it was their duty to try and help.
We’ve all seen the images of people fleeing for safety with nowhere to go and precious few resources. It’s not a crisis that can be solved overnight, but a strong outpouring of support can provide crucial assistance to people who need it.
