Here's how much of our galaxy remains unexplored

Astronomers have discovered one of the most distant planets known to mankind.

The exoplanet, named OGLE-2014-BLG-0124L, is a gas giant about 13,000 light-years from Earth.

This image, from Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, shows an artist's impression of where the planet sits in our galaxy.

The farthest discovered planet lies in the centre of our galaxy, 25,000 light-years away.

But what we really took home from these images was just how much of our galaxy remains unexplored...
