Finland is to launch a series of “national emojis” in order to promote the country’s image.
They include images of naked people in saunas, the Nokia 3310 mobile phone, and headbanging heavy metal fans.
The free icons will be released on the This is Finland website on 1 December, with one new emoji being released every day in the style of an advent calendar.
The full collection will be available for download at a later date.
Petra Theman of the Finnish foreign ministry said that the emoji fit the character of people "who only speak when it's necessary”:
The Finland emojis were designed with a tongue-in-cheek approach, but I hope they will tell the world not only about our special features, but also something about our strengths.
The Ilta-Sanomat newspaper polled readers and 75 per cent approved.
Over to you, David Cameron.
