Another reason to review your Facebook privacy settings

You know on Facebook when you hide an unflattering photo from your timeline? Or when you opt for your friends not to see your tagged photos?

Turns out people can still view them - both in their newsfeeds, and on your profile if they are using Picturebook, a new app from the Chrome web store highlighted first by Mashable.

While not allowing users to view any photos that would violate privacy preferences, such as those set to private, the Google Chrome browser extension does allow for your so-called hidden pictures to be viewed by others - as we found out to embarrassing effect while testing it in the i100.co.uk office.

If you hide a picture from your timeline, or allow pictures to be tagged but have privacy settings which mean they cannot be seen by your friends, the extension will make it easy for people to view those photos if they visit your Facebook profile - as long as those photos are able to be viewed by friends of friends, or by the public.

A reminder of how to remove tags on Facebook.

In a nutshell, it's another reason to review your Facebook privacy settings - and if you really don't want a picture of yourself at that hen do to surface, de-tag rather than hiding it from your timeline.
