Health Secretary Matt Hancock has revealed that, like many other Brits, he enjoys tuning into Gogglebox on a Friday night.

However his viewing experience is uniquely different to most fans in that he is sometimes the one being criticised by the show’s families.

During an interview on ITV’sThis Morning, Hancock told presenters Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that he’s a fan of the Channel 4 show.

The Conservative MP for West Suffolk did admit that it can be hard watching at times when he’s the person they’re commentating on.

He said: “It is funny when you’re sitting down on a Friday night and Gogglebox comes on and you’re all relaxed.

“Suddenly you’re on the screen and then, worse still, the reactions to you.”

As health secretary, Hancock has frequently found himself in the spotlight during the coronavirus pandemic and not always for the most positive reasons.

The Gogglebox cast has often not held back on their thoughts about his performance. Part of witty sibling duo Peter and Sophie Sandiford from Blackpool, Peter described Hancock as Boris Johnson’s pet dog.

He said: “I bet Matt Hancock is going into Boris’s office and Boris is going ‘Good boy. Good boy!’”

Fellow cast member Mary said in another episode his expression made him look “like he’s staring out of the window of a high-rise block”.

People on Twitter reacted to the news, with one saying “I bloody bet” it’s uncomfortable viewing for him.

For Hancock’s sake, if not the approximately 4 million viewers of Gogglebox each week, let’s hope he’s made his final appearance on the show.
