A two-party system may be at the core of United States politics, but one issue has managed to bring both sides of the spectrum together: The movement to free Britney Spears.
The long-standing effort to liberate Spears of her restrictive conservatorship truly took off when Spears delivered delivered a passionate statement to a Los Angeles Court Judge, during which she detailed the various unjust elements of the 13-year-old agreement.
“This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good,” Spears said in court. “I deserve to have a life. I’ve worked my whole life. I deserve to have a two to three-year break.”
“I feel ganged up on, I feel bullied and I feel left out and alone,” Spears continued. “I’m tired of feeling alone.”
Spears also admitted that per the conservatorship, she is required to use an intrauterine device (IUD) to prevent pregnancy. She is also prohibited from marrying and/or procreating with boyfriend Sam Asghari as part of the questionable arrangement.
Many people are understandably disturbed by the star’s allegations, and everyone from die-hard Britney fans to reproductive health advocates to disability activists have publicly condemned the prohibitive conservatorship.
So really, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Spears’ tragic circumstances have finally given both sides of the political aisle something upon which to agree (well, all except Don Jr. and his massively disappointing take).
A recent poll from YouGov asked Americans if they supported or opposed Britney Spears’ conservatorship being terminated as she requested, and a colossal 65 percent of all respondents opted to support the pop star’s plea. Just ten percent opposed (give us their names, we just want to talk).
What’s more, the Pro-Britney mindset remains the same for both Biden and Trump voters: 74 percent of Biden voters supported the singer’s request, while 65 percent of Trump voters reported the same.
If this country’s going to come together over one thing, it’s really only appropriate for it to be in support of the closest thing we have to royalty — our very own pop star queen, the legendary Miss Britney Jean Spears.
