People across the world are reacting to the sad news that Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman had died, aged 43.

The actor first appeared as the Marvel superhero in Captain America: Civil War. In 2018 he made history as the the first black superhero lead when he starred as King T’Challa in Black Panther.

Boseman died at home in Los Angeles after suffering from colon cancer. In a statement posted on Twitter his family and friends revealed that all of his films were shot “during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy”.

The news that Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, but chose not to make the news public, has been particularly complex for people to process.

Boseman’s passing has started a conversation about how everyone is going through hidden pain behind closed doors. None of us know everything that’s going on in each other’s lives, and for something like this to happen is a stark reminder of that.

People have been sharing their own reflections on the importance of remembering that sometimes the most difficult personal struggles are often hidden from view.

Rest in Power, Chadwick Boseman.
