The Sims is one of the most iconic computer games of all time. If you haven't played, you haven't lived.
19 year-old Kayla Sims has been making her own videos about the game for the last four years. In a recent video, Sims added gender neutral bathrooms in every town, bringing the game right into 2019.

Discussing her decision to makeover the game to introduce the more inclusive bathrooms, Sims says:

I went in, and I actually changed every single bathroom that was gendered to be gender neutral.

It’s really irritating when you have gendered bathrooms in The Sims because when you have the walls cut away, you can’t see which one’s which.

It’s irritating, right? So I went in and I changed them all to look like this, or to have the gender neutral doors. It’s also a really easy way to make something more accessible, and also to make something, just, more inclusive.

In the video, she criticised the lack of colour options for a single gender neutral bathroom door. Her followers loved the idea to transform the bathrooms. YouTube user Kittylubba, wrote:

It’s really cool of you to go back and remove gender restrictions on bathrooms. It’s such a little thing but it makes the game so much more inclusive and a lot easier to play.

Another wrote:

Omg the gender bathrooms are the woooorst! So glad you fixed it.

Sims says that, in a game that allows a surprising amount of flexibility when it comes to clothing options, it seems like genderless bathrooms are well overdue.

In a 2016 update, The Sims allowed players to create trans Sims and introduced more pregnancy options. So perhaps more inclusive interiors are just around the corner?
