Who has donated the most to the fight against Ebola?

Liberia's president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has expressed fear that West Africa is at risk of suffering a "lost generation", with the death toll from the Ebola outbreak passing 4,500.

She has urged the international community to step up its efforts to fight the virus with the UN, World Health Organisation and other organisations struggling to raise the necessary funds.

As the above chart supplied by Statista shows, the US government has been the biggest donor to fight the crisis, followed by the World Bank and Britain.

Bill and Melinda Gates and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg have been the biggest private donors thus far.
