We asked 10 polling companies to predict the election result

The bosses of ten polling companies were asked to predict the outcome of the general election by The Independent on Sunday.

Their forecasts have been combined to form the below average prediction: a hung parliament with David Cameron still four seats short of being able to stay on in government with the support of the Lib Dems, the DUP and Ukip.

Ed Miliband would be able to form a Labour-led government however, with support from the SNP and Lib Dems.
