Read this before you share a missing child post on Facebook

It's easy nowadays to do our bit to help online. With a click of the mouse we can help in the search to find a missing hat, a runaway cat, or even something far more serious.

But one police department have put out a warning against sharing "missing" posts of children on social media.

The Royal Canadian Mountain Police have sent out a warning on Facebook for anyone who shares these types of posts to their followers.

They warn that, in some cases, children may not be missing but hiding for their own safety, and sharing a "missing" post is inadvertently actually doing more harm than good.

The say to always check that the post comes from a confirmed police account, and if it's not... Don't share it.

The bottom line: There's sometimes more to a post, especially if it doesn't come straight from the police.
