Donald Trump’s message to veterans on Memorial Day has been condemned as nothing more than 'self promotion' by a leading veteran organisation.

The US president took to Twitter to wish people a "happy memorial day", and proceeded to boast about how much his presidency had improved the country.

An organisation called VoteVets, which represents over 500,000 veterans and their families, called it “self-promotion”.

The president appears to have blocked VoteVets on Twitter in 2017.

People criticised the self-promotion.

Some families of war veterans were also unimpressed by the tweet.

Others pointed out that he avoided the draft.

Illinois Democract Sen Tammy Duckworth went so far as to call him Cadet Bone Spurs – the US president reportedly deferred a Vietnam War draft because of bone spurs.
