Ukip just posted a photo of their supporters in Stoke - only it wasn't from Stoke, it was in Bolton

Stoke-on-Trent locals will be going to the polls on Thursday to decide who is to replace Tristram Hunt, who resigned as Labour MP for the constituency in January.

Labour and Ukip are the favourites for the upcoming by-election and in 2015 the former won a seat with 12,220 votes against Ukip’s 7,041.

On Saturday Ukip posted a photograph of their campaigners, with the caption “just some of the Ukip #PeoplesArmy in Stoke-on-Trent here to campaign for Paul Nuttall".

Paul Nuttall was quick to show his support by retweeting the image:

It was, however, a picture taken in Bolton.

Others pointed out that this wasn't the first time Paul Nuttall and Ukip had a run-in with the truth...

He recently admitted on a live radio interview that claims that he lost “close personal friends” in the Hillsborough disaster of 1989 weren't actually true.

A spokesperson for Ukip told indy100:

Over 300 Ukip activists campaigned in  Stoke Central on Saturday including a large contingent who travelled down from our Spring Conference in Bolton, some of whom gathered for a group picture before heading off to Stoke-on-Trent.

It does seem now that Labour and their allies in the media are really grasping at straws when it comes to stories about Ukip.
