The Green Party have accused a Ukip Mayoral candidate of ripping off their branding

A leaflet for Ukip Mayoral candidate Aaron Foot has "closely followed" Green Party branding, the deputy leader of the party has claimed.

The leaflet, distributed for the candidate for the West of England mayoral election, employs a distinctive formatting and font style that appears very similar to the Green Party's branding guidelines.

The Green Party's branding guidelines were developed in November 2015.

Amelia Womack, deputy leader of the Green Party, told indy100:

At the Green Party we have always prided ourselves on our striking design work but it was a surprise to see our brand guidelines being so closely followed by a Ukip candidate rather than a Green.

In this case, it appears the only difference between our leaflets and Ukip’s is that the Green Party ones contain sensible policies.

It would be great if Ukip’s candidate adopted our stance as well as our design, and stopped blaming the failure of Government policy on migrants.

If Ukip wants to borrow some policies that would truly make a difference to people’s lives, we suggest providing decent social care, building affordable homes and taking action on climate change.

A Ukip spokesman declined to comment.

The inaugural West of England mayoral election will be held on 4 May 2017, to elect the mayor of the West of England Metropolitan Area.

The candidates are as follows:

  • Conservative, Tim Bowles
  • UKIP, Aaron Foot
  • Green, Darren Hall
  • Labour, Lesley Mansell
  • Independent, John Savage
  • Liberal Democrat, Stephen Williams

The deadline for voter registration for those eligible in Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bristol, falls on 13 April.

The new mayor of the combined authority will hold devolved powers for the region, including over support services, employment and transport.
