A former Church of England bishop who said gay parents raise 'delinquent' children and defended 'gay cures' is set to address Ukip suporters.

Ukip with their zero MPs, and come 2019, zero MEPs, will be holding their annual conference in Torquay this weekend.

Addressing the party's supporters will be the former Church of England Bishop of Rochester, Michael Nazir Ali.

'Gay cures'

In 2012, the former Bishop signed a letter in support of a therapist who had been found guilty of professional misconduct for promoting 'gay cure' therapies.

On the matter of 'gay cures', the letter, of which Bishop Michael was one signatory, said:

We believe that people who seek, freely, to resolve unwanted same-sex attractions hold the moral right to receive professional assistance.

Whether motivated by Christian conscience or other values, clients, not practitioners, have the prerogative to choose the yardstick by which to define themselves.

Ali himself said in 2009 that:

We welcome homosexuals, but we want them to repent and be changed.

Same-sex parenting

Ali has also spoken out against same-sex parenting, or the use of surrogates, as 'psychologically damaging'.

This is social experimentation. It’s one thing for a child not to have a mother or father through tragedy but it is another to plan children to come into the world without a father.

He has also said:

The results of ‘father-hunger’ can be seen in [lack of] educational achievement and on our streets, where it contributes to delinquency.

According to Christians Today, Bishop Michael is due to speak from the main stage of the conference on Friday afternoon.

In the same session, a 'senior member' of the German far right party the Alternative for Germany will reportedly speak.

Nazir-Ali told Christians Todaythat he goes to many party conferences, and has previously attended those held by Labour and Conservatives.

It is during this time that Ukip is expected to elect its sixth leader in 18 months.
