The backlash to Sean Spicer's Hitler comments was instantaneous and brutal

Each press conference chaired by White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, seems to be worse than the last one. But his briefing yesterday really set the bar low.

Last week, the US launched a cruise missile attack on a Syrian airfield, after allegations that Bashar al-Assad used the chemical weapon sarin, killing over 70 Syrians, including many children.

Spicer said during his briefing:

We didn’t use chemical weapons in World War Two. You had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons.

He went on to clarify:

I think when you come to sarin gas, he was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing.

He also called concentration camps 'Holocaust centres'.

Many of the millions of Jews who were killed during the Holocaust were killed in gas chambers with chemical gas agents.

Worse still, Spicer’s comments came on the first day of the Jewish holiday Passover.

The backlash to the badly thought out comments was instantaneous.
