Earlier this month Donald Trump Junior tweeted a tasteless photo of Skittles, comparing them to refugees, much to the world’s collective ire:
The caption read:
If I had a bowl of skittles and I told you just three would kill you. Would you take a handful?
That’s our Syrian refugee problem.
Everyone – from the internet, to Skittles itself – condemned the comparison, and one anonymous person on the internet even 'corrected' the Trump campaign poster:
Well, the saga appears to have come to an end after David Kittos, the Flickr user who had taken the original photo of the Skittles, filed a complaint for the image to be taken down:
The image of a bowl of skittles is mine and has always been set as 'ALL RIGHTS RESERVED' in my Flickr library. It was copied and is being used WITHOUT my permission. I have never been contacted by Donald Trump Jr or any representative about the image, before or after it was used in the Tweet.
Twitter gladly obliged him, and the following is the 'updated' version of Trump Jr's tweet:
The irony? Kittos came to the UK in the 1970s as a refugee from Cyprus.
He told BBC:
I am very glad it's down, and it shouldn't have been up in the first place.
