Fox News host Tucker Carlson has been slammed for his reaction to US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s account of the Capitol riots on 6 January.
Earlier this week, she went live on Instagram to describe what her experience during the siege, which left five people dead, including one police officer.
In the video, which was played on Carlson’s show on Wednesday, Ocasio-Cortez says: “I jump into my bathroom and I close the door. I just keep hearing this ‘bang, bang, bang’.
“I open the door, when all of a sudden I hear that whoever is trying to get inside, got into my office.
“I just hear, ‘where is she? Where is she?’ This is the moment where I thought everything was over."
Responding to the clip, Carlson criticised it “as narcissism on parade”, with the congresswoman “yammering on about the only subject she really cares about – herself”.
He continued: “The perfect symbol of a culture dying from self-involvement. We’ve said that before and we’ve laughed as we did, but actually it’s not funny.
“People will believe this crap. Some already do.
“Anyone who was physically present at the Capitol that day knows it’s ridiculous. There were no rioters in Sandy Cortez’s hallway.”
The US host has since been branded as a “narcissistic coward” online over his comments:
