Trump bizarrely claims America would have ‘very few cases’ of coronavirus if they’d just tested fewer people

Trump has had a lot to say about coronavirus tests.

In fact, just a few days ago – when he unceremoniously walked out of his press conference – he was standing in front of a sign that said America was “leading the world in testing”

Well now, speaking at an event in Pennsylvania, he seems to have gone off tests altogether.

In fact, he even suggested that America has so many coronavirus cases (by far the highest in the world) because they’re testing so many people.

Not, of course, because he didn’t act quickly enough… of course that couldn’t be.

Trump said:

When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn't do any testing we would have very few cases.

Trump’s coronavirus response has been widely criticised over the last few months. He’s been called out for being too partisan, slow to act and has even sided with protesters who want to end lockdown before it’s safe.

Oh, and who could forget when he suggested bleach might cure coronavirus?

Given that South Korea and Japan have conducted millions of tests, and the UK is currently conducting over 100,000 a day, it’s probably not the best argument for Trump to make, even if he is testing lots of people.

All in all, the reason America has a lot of cases is probably more to do with Trump’s inaction and erratic behaviour than how many tests are being done right now.
