Donald Trump might have to tone down his rhetoric online after Twitter announced a new policy that will add warning labels to tweets that violate their rules of conduct.

The social media company said on Thursday that it will label tweets from political figures that could otherwise be taken down for breaking its company rules. Twitter has banned things such as targeted harassment, bullying, glorifications of violence and threats on their platform.

The new policy will apply to those who have more than 100,00 followers on Twitter, and will "be used on rare occasions". This means if a tweet has violated the company's guidelines, users will have to click on a screen that reads:

The Twitter Rules about abusive behaviour apply to this Tweet. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain available.

...there is no doubt the new policy will affect Trump's tweets but it remains to be seen whether or not the policy change will make a difference.
