The US president appeared at a rally in Sunrise, Florida where he attempted to whip his supporters into a frenzy with some pretty bold claims about the annual American holiday and the apparent threat from Liberals on the Thanksgiving tradition.
During one point in the Florida on Thursday, the President claimed:
You know, some people want to change the name Thanksgiving. They don’t want to use the term 'Thanksgiving.'
He went on to reference his own similar, previous claims about Christmas:
And that was true also with Christmas, but now everybody’s using Christmas again. Remember I said that?
Naturally Trump didn’t go into any specifics about who exactly was making these demands but a gut feeling is often preferable to actual evidence for the man who has made a habit of complaining about “fake news”.
He added:
Now we’re going to have do little work on Thanksgiving. People have different ideas why it shouldn’t be called Thanksgiving. But everybody in this room, I know, loves the name Thanksgiving, and we’re not changing it.
After the comments were shared on social media, Trump was roundly mocked using the hashtag #WhatLiberalsCallThanksgiving
