Melania encourages Americans to wear face masks hours after Trump said that he won't

Melania Trump has inadvertently contradicted her husband, Donald by encouraging Americans to wear face masks just hours after he said that he wouldn't wear one.

On Friday, the president announced that his administration would be encouraging people in the United States to cover their faces with masks or other homemade items to stop the spread of the virus.

However, Trump was very keen to emphasise that this was only "voluntary" and he wouldn't be following even his own administration's advice.

I'm choosing not to do it, but some people may want to do it, and that's OK.

However, someone who is definitely taking this advice is the First Lady, who just hours after Trump's defiant statement tweeted that she would be encouraging everyone to cover their face.

She wrote:

People were quick to notice the stark contrast in Melania and Donald's statements about the masks.

We don't always agree with Melania but for once were going to say listen to her even if her husband won't.

The United States currently has more than 277,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus, more than any other nation in the world.
