Donald Trump just looked at the sky and said 'I am the chosen one', and everyone made exactly the same joke.
Mr Trump was speaking to reporters in order to defend the administration's decision to continue the trade war with China, and he decided to turn to the sky in order to make the grandiose statement.
The president attempted to distance himself from the economic damage his battle with China is causing the US economy, which has stoked fears that the US is on the brink of a recession, reports the Huffington Post.
Speaking to the press, he said:
Somebody said this is Trump’s trade war. It’s not my trade war. This is a trade war that should have taken place a long time ago by a lot of other presidents.
Somebody had to do it. I am the chosen one. Somebody had to do it, so I took on China. I took on China on trade, and you know what? We’re winning.
After Trump's bizarre comments, the strange Biblical nature of the statement didn't get lost on Twitter users.
This isn't the only Biblical reference Mr Trump has made in recent days.
Speaking earlier in the day, Trump tweeted quotes from a conspiracy theorist claiming that people in Israel love him like he is the "king" of the country, and "the second coming of God".
Erm, we're beginning to sense a bit of a 'messiah complex'...
