A resurfaced video of a man involved in the US Capitol riots saying “the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat” was previously retweeted by President Donald Trump.
The subject of the video Cuoy Griffin, a county commissioner in New Mexico and founder of "Cowboys for Trump", has now been arrested for his participation.
The US Justice Department said the elected official also vowed to travel to Washington with firearms to protest president-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
Investigators added Griffin posted a video to Facebook where he stated: “If we do, then it’s gonna be a sad day, because there’s gonna be blood running out of that building.”
Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building while Congress was certifying Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential election.
Griffin told the FBI he stood on the steps of the building but did not enter it.
The criminal complaint records his offence as “knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority”.
People are now again looking at Trump’s support for the original video posted last year and questioning Griffin’s earlier visit to the Oval Office.
Griffin previously said he meant “the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat” in a “political sense”.
