President Donald Trump was in Austin, Texas on Wednesday alongside Apple chief executive Tim Cook (or Tim Apple, if you're Trump) to tour one of the manufacturing plants the tech company builds parts.

According to The Verge, during the visit the president suggested that the factory was ‘new’ saying:

We’re seeing the beginning of a very powerful and important plant.

Anybody that followed my campaign, I would always talk about Apple, that I want to see Apple building plants in the United States. And that’s what’s happening.

Later, in a classic Trump move, he doubled down by taking to Twitter where he wrote:

Today I opened a major Apple Manufacturing plant in Texas that will bring high paying jobs back to America. Today Nancy Pelosi closed Congress because she doesn’t care about American Workers

You can probably see where this is going: the manufacturing plant is not new it has actually been operating and pumping out parts for Apple’s Macbooks since 2013, which would have been during Obama’s presidency.

To make matters worse the manufacturing plant isn’t even an Apple owned manufacturing plant. Yup. It’s actually owned by a contractor employed by Apple called Flex Ltd. In a nutshell, what Trump witnessed was not the beginning of anything.

In fact Apple is not currently building any new factories in the US, they are however looking to build a new campus in Austin which is possibly what confused the president. But, that’s quite different to a factory set up entirely to create Apple products on the good and great American soil.

People immediately called out the president.

But Tim Cook who was also present didn’t get off lightly either for not stepping in and correcting Trump.

Others pointed out that attacking Nancy Pelosi for not caring about American workers by closing congress wasn't quite right.

She was actually busy with Trump's impeachment inquiry, which is surely of benefit to everyone in America, including workers. All of which has been spurred on by the president's own actions.
