It looks as though Tom Brady has locked up his MAGA hat for good after the Super Bowl champions took a trip to the White House on Tuesday. President Joe Biden honoured Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates in a ceremony where the quarterback took centre stage and made a joke about the 2020 election results.

Brady said, “Not a lot of people think that we could’ve won [the Super Bowl]. In fact, I think about 40 per cent of the people still don’t think we won. You understand that, Mr President?”, to which Biden laughed and agreed, “I understand that.”

The football star then continued with a joke about when he was nicknamed ‘sleepy Tom’ during a game against the Chicago Bears when he forgot what down it was. “I lost track of one down in 21-years of playing and they started calling me ‘sleepy Tom’ - why would they do that to me?” Brady joked.

The president laughed along at the reference that paid homage to Donald Trump’s ‘sleepy Joe’ jab towards Biden during the campaign.

The pair were deemed the ‘unexpected comedy duo we never could have predicted’ by one Twitter user. While others couldn’t help but imagine the former President’s reaction to Brady’s subtle roast.

One Twitter user predicted it would have been “one of the most painful experiences of [Trump’s] life.” Another said the ceremony would have driven him “absolutely nuts.”

More Twitter users found the jokes hilarious. “I’m here for Tom Brady and President Biden cracking jokes at Trump’s expense”, one said.

While another put it straight, “a good Trump joke is a good Trump joke.”

Since Brady’s 2015 ‘MAGA incident’, he has kept quiet on his political views – but we can’t help but wonder if this unlikely comedy duo has made him have a change of heart.
