These are the countries with the most internally displaced persons

While the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East are well documented in the international media, there are others around the world causing untold tragedy.

Syria's civil war has seen more than 7m people flee their homes with another 3.4m in neighbouring Iraq, as this chart from Statista shows.

However, it may surprise some to see that 6m are internally displaced in Colombia - mainly owing to the conflict between Farc rebels and government forces.

Similarly, millions are displaced in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo - two African countries that have been beset by on and off violence for decades.
