These are the countries where people feel most satisfied with their job

This chart by Statista lays out where in the world employees love and hate their offices.

It uses data from a report conducted by Steelcase, an office and furniture supplier, which set out to explore the level of worker engagement around the world.

Its findings provide an interesting insight into the nuances of city life in different countries.

The least satisfied office workers are in Spain, with only seven per cent of those surveyed saying they felt highly engaged and satisfied at work.

Compared to the global average, they are less able to move around the office easily throughout the day.

This data suggests that many are tethered to their desks without a sense of empowerment and control in their workplace.

In contrast, India has five times as many workers, or 28 per cent, who stated they are happy in their place of work.

Why did India score the highest?

For employees in one of the world’s most densely populated countries, the workplace can often feel like a haven from the congestion of everyday life at home and on busy streets.

In fact, 73 per cent of Indians say their work environment allows them to feel relaxed and calm, which is significantly higher than most countries.

The UK came in the bottom five of countries surveyed, with only 11 per cent of people feeling happy in their place of work.

Unlike India, where the workplace provides a sense of pride, the report found that British offices tend to be overcrowded.

Compared to the global average, the UK has more than double the number of workers with no assigned workspace.
