Theresa May got locked in her car before meeting Angela Merkel and the jokes wrote themselves

Oh, Theresa, can't you get anything right? No, it seems you can't.

This time, the prime minister has been flouted by that notoriously difficult task - getting out of a car.

Mrs May has just landed in Berlin for talks with the German chancellor Angela Merkel after meeting Dutch PM Mark Rutte in The Hague. Mrs May has been meeting with European leaders in a last ditch attempt to rescue her much beleaguered Brexit deal after she postponed a Commons vote on it until January.

However, awkwardly enough for Mrs May, the car door failed to open as she was heading to meet Mrs Merkel.

Needless to say, the moment didn't get lost on the eagle-eyed Twitterati.

Some wondered why people assumed that she actually wanted to get out.

Others pointed out that the whole situation is *the* Brexit metaphor we need in our lives.

Oh, the horror, the horror.

Ouch.

Of course, Theresa May is no stranger to embarrassing gaffes. Who could forget her painful run ins with glasses of water, P45 forms, cough sweets, and even dancing?

It really couldn't get any worse, could it?
