Suicide to cause more deaths than Aids and road accidents next year

Suicide will be linked to more deaths than HIV/Aids, heart disease and road injuries in Europe next year, according to projections from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The WHO estimates that suicide, or self harm, will be the 15th leading cause of death across the globe in 2015, killing more than liver cancer, stomach cancer and colon cancer.

By 2030, it will be the 16th, outpacing deaths from falls, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, as well as breast cancer. Currently in Britain, suicide is the most common cause of death in men under the age of 35.
