The moment we all desperately longed for at 13 has finally arrived. Yes, that's right: there's going to be a new Twilight book. And this time it's from Edward Cullen's perspective.

Stephanie Meyer has revealed that Midnight Sun, a retelling of Twilight from Cullen's point of view (rather than Bella Swan's), will be published on 4 August.

Meyer had been counting down the days to the big announcement on her website. Excitement among fans is palpable: so many logged on today to hear the news, it immediately crashed.

But Midnight Sun's existence has been known since 2008. Meyer began writing the novel 12 years ago, but abandoned the project when a manuscript was leaked online.

She has finally decided to revive it, and share it with her fans.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Meyer said:

I am very excited to finally, finally announce the release of Midnight Sun on the 4th of August. It’s a crazy time right now and I wasn’t sure it was the right time to put this book out, but some of you have been waiting for just so so long it didn’t seem right to make you wait any more.

Fans are obviously super excited.

But some are remembering that Twilight isn't beloved by everyone.

The timing is kind of perfect.

And the book is long.

Meyer has clarified that Edward "overthinks everything", hence the much greater length.

Midnight Sun isn't her first foray back into Twilight since its initial publication in 2005. In 2015, Meyer published Life and Death which gender-swaps Edward (Edyth) and Bella (Beau).

Maybe a bit of good news is exactly what we all need right now.

It's time to dust off those #TeamEdward t-shirts.

Remember, Edward Cullen can read people's minds. This book has the potential to be the weirdest thing about 2020.
