Sky News presenter rummages through luggage of MH17 victim on live TV

Sky News - never wrong for long. But when they are wrong...

The broadcaster apologised "profusely" yesterday after presenter Colin Brazier rifled through the luggage of an MH17 victim live on air when reporting from the crash site in eastern Ukraine.

During the report Brazier can be heard saying "we shouldn't really be doing this, I suppose" as he picks up a flask and some keys.

After a swift backlash, with the BBC's Jacqui Oatley tweeting she was "astonished", a spokesperson for Sky News said: "Today whilst presenting from the site of the MH17 air crash Colin Brazier reflected on the human tragedy of the event and showed audiences the content of one of the victims' bags.

"Colin immediately recognised that this was inappropriate and said so on air. Both Colin and Sky News apologise profusely for any offence caused."

Ten UK passengers were among the 298 people who died when the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 crashed last week.

Pro-Russian militia fighting the Ukrainian army have been accused of shooting the passenger jet down.
