Women doing jobs in traditionally male dominated fields often have to develop a high tolerance for sexist or patronising comments.

When it comes to fields that are still extremely male dominated, such as flying planes, these instances can be more frequent and insulting.

Airline pilot Charlotte recently experienced such comments from customers while at work. After initially brushing it off, she felt compelled to share her experience after a colleague expressed frustration at the incident.

She mused on how these forms of seemingly arbitrary sexism serve as yet another barrier to women interested in becoming pilots.

Her thread inspired other pilots, male and female, to send her positive responses.

Other people on Twitter offered similar encouragement, starting with her brother, who is also a pilot.
