A hero has emerged in the form of 20-year-old Daniel Alfredo Burleson, a young man arrested by police in Iowa after being spotted with a vodka in his hand. Asked to show some ID, Burleson began searching through his wallet until police spotted a fake Hawaii ID with the words, “McLovin DOB 06/03/1981”.

For those unaware, the ID is a reference to the 2007 cult favourite, Superbad, in which a teenage character uses a fake ID bearing the name to buy alcohol at a liquor store. It is hard to imagine anything more obviously fake in the years following the release of the film.

According to Fox11, authorities said Burleson “smelled strongly of ingested alcohol and had slurred speech and bloodshot watery eyes.” None of that is likely to bother him, however, since Superbad’s writer and star Seth Rogen has tipped his hat to the intrepid young man, sharing the story on Twitter with the words: “My work here is done.”
