Sean Hannity has launched a bizarre attack on Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders for standing behind a barrier at a recent rally and equating it to the senator's opposition to Trump's border wall.
The Democratic hopeful, who ran for president in 2016, kicked off his new campaign on Sunday with a rally in Brooklyn, New York, where he declared there would be “a political revolution which is going to transform America”.
The event, which was held at Brooklyn college, was attended by a large number of people who are backing the 77-year-old from Vermont to win the race to the White House.
However, Hannity, who is a close associate of Donald Trump and has previously spoken at Trump rallies, found an odd and almost insignificant moment to lambaste Sanders on.
Speaking on his own show on Fox News, Hannity said the following:
Senator Bernie Sanders kicked off his 2020 campaign in Brooklyn, wasted little time before revealing, well, more hypocrisy.
Democratic socialist, open borders advocate, held a rally and was happy to greet his supporters from behind a barrier.
Why's the fence up Bernie? Oh, a barrier is acceptable if they protect you personally? They are only wrong if they are used to protect our border and the American people?
We mean, really? Is this what it has come to? Criticising someone for standing behind a barrier?
Hannity has definitely been to a rally and will realise that barriers are only there for security and everyone's protection.
It's not like these barriers are a huge and very expensive construct that stretch across the entire border and will symbolise hatred and bigotry towards one nation and it's citizens.
Needless to say, many people on Twitter were lost for words after seeing the clip.
This wouldn't be the first time that Trump supporters have bizarrely criticised Democrats on Fox News for their opposition of the wall.
Just last month, the commentators Diamond and Silk called out Beto O'Rourke for living in a house with walls.
