The country’s federal censor, called Roskomnadzor decided to block the adult website Brazzers in a contradictory move.
The same agency unblocked YouPorn, another adult website which they initially blocked in September 2016.
In a press release Roskomnadzor said:
We’ve removed the page on the website YouPorn from the state registry [for banned websites] after receiving a decision to cancel the verdict by a Vladivostok court.
According to The Moscow Times, a Russian lawyer managed to convince an appeals court last month that YouPorn had been blocked illegally, on the grounds that the ‘defendant’ was not involved in the trial.
Additionally, he argued that the distribution of porn is not illegal in Russia, and unless it could be proven that YouPorn was distributed to children, the ban had to be lifted.
What will become of Brazzers remains to be seen.
