Rudy Giuliani’s completely deranged press conference on Thursday, where he attempted to explain some of the claims surrounding voter fraud saw one baseless claim made after another.
So far, president Trump’s legal team has been unable to produce anything resembling solid concrete evidence that the Democrats cheated to win the election. That being said they touted all sorts of conspiracies at RNC HQ ranging from Trump ballots being thrown in the garbage to voting machines being rigged.
None of this has been thus far proven to be true but the most shocking and eyebrow-raising claim that was made during the press conference was that somehow socialist Venezuela was to blame and that their former president Hugo Chavez was to blame.
Sidney Powell, another legal advisor from Trump’s team, whose authority has even been questioned by Fox News’ Tucker Carlson said:
Thank you Rudy. What we are really dealing with here and uncovering more by the day is the massive influence of communist money through Venezuela, Cuba, and likely China in the interference with our elections here in the United States.
The Dominion voting systems, the Smartmatic technology software and the software that goes in other computerized voting systems here in as well, not just Dominion, were created in Venezuela at the direction of Hugo Chavez to make sure he never lost an election after one constitutional referendum came out the way he did not want it to come out.
We have one very strong witness who has explained how it all works. His affidavit is attached to the pleadings of Lin Wood in the lawsuit he filed in Georgia. It is a stunning, detailed affidavit because he was with Hugo Chavez while … He was being briefed on how it worked, he was with Hugo Chavez when he saw it operate to make sure the election came out his way.
That was the express purpose for creating this software. He has seen it operate and as soon as he saw the multiple states shut down the voting on the night of the election, he knew the same thing was happening here, that that was what had gone on.
She added that Smartmatic, a voting software has previously been associated with the Venezuelan government and has been “openly hostile to the United States” in the past and has continued to be used by their current president Nicolas Maduro.
Giuliani, a man who was duped by Borat later added that all this information is on the internet and that Smartmatic is owned by people who were close to Chavez.
In fact, I feel kind of stupid and you all should, because all you had to do is go online and find out that Smartmatic is owned by Venezuelans close to Chavez. You can Google it, well, unless they take it down. I preserved it.
Giuliani even dragged George Soros into his argument about Venezuela, a figure that has warranted a lot of interest amongst pro-Trump conspiracy theorists.
This all sounds like nonsense and it is. Just because a system was built in another country doesn’t mean it would effect an election elsewhere, plus there is no evidence to that Venezuela would have any interest in tampering with goings on in the United States.
We’ve heard some wild stuff during this entire election cycle from Trump loyalists but to claim that Chavez who died in 2013 is still influencing elections beyond the grave has seen them thoroughly ridiculed.
We can’t predict what the Trump team will come up with next but its safe to say that things are probably gonna get a lot weirder from here.
