Remarkable video shows that Trump stands for everything that Reagan said he was against

Ronald Reagan wasn’t perfect and Donald Trump is far from it too.

But a new video from the group Republican Voters Against Trump is highlighting the stark differences between the two presidents of the United States.

Using Reagan’s speech from 3 November 1980 – one day before he was first elected into the top job – the clip shows how the 45th president, Trump has helped create an environment in the United States which is against everything that the 40th president, Reagan campaigned for.

For example, Reagan said at one point:

Are you convinced that we’ve earned the respect of the world and our allies?

This part of the speech happens while we’re shown videos of Poland’s First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda skipping protocol and shaking Melania’s hand before Trump’s, world leaders like Justin Trudeau, Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron talking with Princess Anne behind Trump’s back and Japanese PM Shinzō Abe shaking hands with Trump but immediately rolling his eyes after.

Another part of the speech narrated:

Are you pleased with the ability of… our youngsters to take pride in the world we have built for them.

During this part of the speech, we’re shown pollution billowing from coal power plants and young kids protesting about climate change.

Many responded by agreeing with the sentiment of the video:

While others criticised the video for trying to make Reagan sound like the benchmark for good:

Reagan was president from 1980 to 1989 and was not without his faults.

The former president is often heavily criticised for his slow response to the AIDS epidemic, resulting in thousands of deaths.

His administration also almost tripled the national debt, sold weapons to Iran, expanded the so-called 'war on drugs' and helped arm anti-communist rebels in Afghanistan – who later became known as the Taliban.
