Rapper T.I has revealed that he takes yearly trips to the gynaecologist with his daughter, now 18 years old, to “check her hymen” to make sure it’s “still intact.”

In the year 2019.

In an interview with Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham in the podcast Ladies Like Us, the rapper talked about parenting and having the “sex talk” with his daughters, especially 18-year-old Deyjah Imani Harris.

When asked if he has had “the talk,” T.I., real name Clifford Joseph Harris Jr, revealed the following bizarre fact:

Not only have we had the conversation - we have yearly trips to the gynaecologist to check her hymen. Yes, I go with her.

Then he talked about his daughter’s 16th birthday party. He “put a stick note on the door” that read:

Gyno. Tomorrow. 9:30.

"So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor comes and talk, and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism," T.I. explained. "He’s like, ‘You know, sir, I have to, in order to share information’ — I’m like, 'Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? See, Doc? Ain't no problem.'"

T.I. added that he was told the hymen can tear in other ways – not just sexual intercourse.

And so then they come and say, ‘Well, I just want you to know that there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding, and just other forms of athletic physical activity.’

So I say, ‘Look, Doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bike, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously.

Men and women online are appalled.

"It's an invasion of her privacy"

Some are accusing T.I of "abuse"

Others are saying T.I.'s actions are "contributing to rape culture"

And condemn the rapper for celebrating her virginity - not the fact that she's experienced another year on Earth

Jennifer Gunter, OBGYN extraordinaire, disputed T.I’s statements

A Twitter account thought to belong to Deyjah Harris liked several tweets criticising T.I.

To be clear the belief that virginity is defined by an intact hymen, despite the fact that, you know, medical professionals, have disputed this is misogynistic.

The hymen, which is as thin piece of skin that partially covers the entrance of the vagina can tear easily, including if a woman engages in certain sports, riding a bike, using tampons.

Also, what happens to a woman's body, and her sexual history is nobody's business but her own.

T.I.'s reps have been contacted for comment.
