On Saturday Will Saletan, a national correspondent at Slate had this advice to parents about teaching consent.
Teach your daughters to say 'No' firmly and mean it. Men sense women's willingness to yield. Make clear you mean business.
This is the point where we have to talk about a seemingly endless Twitter thread - Saletan linked back to a tweet by former chair of the Democratic National Committee Donna Brazile.
Brazile herself was sharing a video that was posted by another user, Broderick Greer.
The video shows Member of the US House of Representatives Maxine Waters, who in the clip, grilling the US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
Walters refuses to be brushed off by Mnuchin for not answering her question.
Consent
This rabbit hole of tweets and shares, led some to interpret Saletan's tweet differently than he claims to have intended it.
Some thought the 'advice' was patronising and unhelpful:
Others thought it had connotations surrounding consent.
In this light, many read the advice as though Saletan is putting the onus on women not to get raped, rather than men not to rape them.
This interpretation received a series of widely shared responses.
Saletan responded to some of these at the time.
Branding the responses as 'Twitter Outrage' didn't exactly help his cause...
